Ants
The Black Garden Ant, 4mm
long is the most common nuisance ant found in the UK. An active insect
it nests in walls, grass and under paving.
• Foraging
workers follow invisible trails marked with pheromone. These trails tend
to follow physical features (wall/floor junctions, back edges of
worktops, edges of paths or paved areas). usually they prefer sweet
foods.
•Foraging
worker ants can contaminate foodstuffs in domestic and commercial
premises.
•
The nest becomes active in
spring and may build up to such a population that in late summer the
queen will leave the nest to begin a new one, she will be followed by
the winged males and this is when a swarm of ants is normally seen.
